Easy picking peas and cukes: To simplify the picking of peas, erect a piece of fence or chicken wire at a 45-degree angle to the ground - supported with posts. Plant peas in front of the fence or chicken wire and let them climb upward. The peas will hang through to the underside, making picking easy. Cucumbers can be grown this way too. Not only will the cukes be off the ground, you will save space in the garden - grow up, not out.
Flowers in the veggie garden: Marigolds and Nasturtiums are great companion plants for the vegetable garden - they aid in deterring insects AND they add a nice touch of color and interest.
