Bearded iris is a traditional plant that flowers during the months of May and June. The flower stalks are quite long (up to 3 feet), therefore, some type of support may be necessary to keep the flowers from falling over. After the flowers are spent, the long stalks should be cut back to the foliage in order to prevent the plant from expending energy producing seeds. In July, the foliage begins to turn brown as it dies-back.
